Rear Suspension Support

SumoSprings helper springs are great for RVs or motor homes. Heavy rear loads can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the motor home's weight. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

SumoSprings diagram of installation above existing vehicle spring

Each spring in this kit is bolted to two mounting brackets. One bracket is attached to the frame of your vehicle, and the other bracket is attached to the axle, typically above your existing factory leaf spring. Because each helper spring is in full contact at the top and bottom of the suspension's travel, the expanding and contracting action of the SumoSprings enhances your ride under all conditions, not just when it's loaded. And the closed-cell urethane springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

SumoSprings compressing under load

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

SumoSprings expanding to allow play in the suspension

These springs extend in height by as much as 50 percent to allow more movement in your suspension when you're traveling unloaded, making your ride smoother and more comfortable.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings expand and compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

This kit comes with custom-fit brackets that are designed to easily bolt onto your vehicle.

Greatly improved ride and handling. Had to re-plumb gray tank drain around spring.

Quality looks great, on my RV I had to pull the rear tires off to drill the holes for the top mount also cut the body edge to slide the top bolts of the mount so it sits flush with the frame. Have not driven it yet will put an update on change.

Excellent product highly recommended etrailer customer service is helpful

I needed to replace the existing Firestone air bags on the rear of my class "A" motorhome and after doing some research on the Sumo springs I opted to try them. The one big advantage right off the bat was I didn't have to worry about air pressure adjustment prior to a trip. This particular kit was a very easy install in that the upper mounting bracket for the Sumo was identical to the existing Firestone air bag mount with the same hole pattern for bolting the new Sumo spring to the frame. The first trip out I immediately noted a more stable ride with less side roll. The whole RV seemed to be planted more firmly to the road. So far I am very satisfied with install of these suspension parts. I look forward to many years of a better ride!

by:

We have been extremely happy with the installation of the Sumo Springs to the front and rear of our class A motorhome. This in combination with the addition of Safety Steering has made a tremendous difference in comfort and driving. I belong to several motorhome groups and have recommend Sumo Springs to anyone interested in upgrading their rig.

2018 Tiffin Allegro Motorhome

Quick delivery. Parts came as ordered. Have not installed yet but will write something when i do and let you know how it fits.

by:

They’re asking me for a review the day after I received these items. I can only give it 3 stars because I could only install the fronts today as there was no hardware in the box for the rears.
I immediately opened the boxes and called. A very nice person explained how backed up they were and it would be 3-4 days before a request could even be submitted for new mounting hardware. We can only see. I’m hoping I can revise this rating later if I get the hardware in a reasonable timeframe. To be fair the box was retaped. Well never know if it was UPS or the original packer. I’m
Most likely going to be leaving on my next trip with only fronts installed. They weren’t bad to install. Between the written directions and the [online video]. The only thing left out is I raised and lowered the unit to be sure the pieces were lined up before tightening. It’s really the only way.

2010 Ford F-150

I bought and installed these for
My
2012 f53 motorhome chassis. They make the ride too stiff. Does better side roll. But bounces everything inside going down the road. Maybe the next spring level down would be better?

In order for me to better assist you, we will need the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. Also, please check your rear frame area to make sure it looks flush, like there’s no metal bars or brackets welded on the frame.

Allegro

My 2007 Allegro Bay on an F53 chassis had a real tendency to bob and weave on crooked roads and in windy weather. The Sumo Springs removed virtually all the instability. The coach handles much better and I am not as fatigued at the end of the day.

2008 Damon Daybreak Motorhome

happy with the product and the way it helps with the sway

by:

Before installing the Sumo Springs my motor home had a dangerous sway and would bottom out going on and off bridges and over passes. After installation, I have much better control of the vehicle. Sumo Springs have made my vehicle a much more comfortable vehicle to drive.

I really appreciate the difference the springs have made in the handling of my motor home. Before them I worried about bottoming out and loosing control getting on and off bridges and overpasses. Now my trips are more relaxed. Having the right parts delivered the first time also was really appreciated. Thanks again.

Winnebago

What a great addition to my newly purchased motorhome. I was disappointed in the ride of my 2014 Winnebago Vista. The SumoSprings improved both the ride and handling.

by:

Best upgrade we did on our RV suspension - strongly recommend this for your RV

by:

These are a great product, but this rear set is not easily installed by a non-professional. Since they require drilling the frame of the RV and/or removing the rear wheels, I had a local shop install them.

by:

The Sumo springs are doing the job. etrailer had the best prices, took some shopping around to find a qualified, fair priced installer.

by:

Installed the new sway bars and the sumo springs and the handling is vastly better than it was before-- well worth the investment-- thanks

by:

great product and high quailty.

Has softened the ride somewhat. Obviously not like liquid springs but for the cost it has been worth it.

Tiffin

This product helps to control road bump shocks on our Tiffin class A gas M/H as well as control rolling action whether from slow speed turns or wind from passing trucks. It is well worth the cost!

  • Comparing SumoSprings and Timbrens for a 2011 Tiffin Motorhome on Ford F-53 Chassis with 22K GVWR
I recommend using SumoSprings Custom Helper Springs for your 2011 Tiffin Motorhome on Ford F-53 Chassis with 22K GVWR, part # SSF-170-40-2 for the front and part # SSR-180-54-1 for the rear. These will provide a much smoother ride than the Timbrens and are by far the more popular option among RV owner's. In addition to leveling and ride quality, they also help to reduce body roll i.e. sway. The front kit is a bolt-on but the rear's do require drilling.

You can install a front set of SumoSprings on your 2019 Jayco Precep 29V if you wanted first with the part # SSF-170-40-2. It will give you improved handling and stability and then for the rear then # SSR-180-54-1 and you'd be set. Having the front and rear done at same time will give you the best ride quality but if you did the front or the rear separately you'd be fine and see improvements.
